Kenosha Man Charged in 2 Attempted Kidnappings

A man tried to kidnap a 52-year-old woman and a 14-year-old girl just hours apart last week

A 61-year-old man was arrested in connection with the attempted kidnappings of a woman and a young teen in Kenosha last week.

Police allege Leroy E. Johnson tried to kidnap a 52-year-old woman and a 14-year-old girl on two separate occasions just hours apart last Thursday.

The first attack happened around 4:45 p.m. in the 1300 block of 50th Street, when a man driving a four-door vehicle pulled up alongside a woman who was walking down the street and asked her for directions. As the woman approached, the driver pointed a pistol at her and told her to get into the car, police said.

The woman ran away from the car and gave officers a partial license plate number and description of the suspect.

Less than three hours later, a 14-year-old girl was walking on 44th Street from the lakefront when a man, standing outside a black four-door vehicle, asked her for directions. The man then grabbed the girl by the shirt collar and tried to force her at gunpoint into his car, police said.

The teen pushed the gun away, kicked the man and ran westbound screaming for help, according to authorities.

Police identified the vehicle while checking surveillance video from surrounding businesses and arrested Johnson a short time later.

Johnson admitted his involvement in the abduction attempts, according to Kenosha police, and was charged with two counts of attempted kidnapping while armed, one count of attempted abduction of a child while armed, one could of child enticement while armed and one count of false imprisonment while armed.

He is expected to appear in court Monday. It was not immediately clear if Johnson had an attorney.
