Jury selection has begun in the trial of a suburban Chicago man who is charged with first-degree murder in the 2009 stabbing deaths of his girlfriend's father, sister and grandmother.
Fifty-seven potential jurors were being questioned on Tuesday in a Rolling Meadows courthouse to select 12 jurors and two alternates in the trial of D'andre Howard.
Howard is accused of killing 57-year-old Alan Engelhardt, 18-year-old Laura Engelhardt and 73-year-old Marlene Gacek after an argument with his then-girlfriend Amanda Engelhardt at the family's Hoffman Estates home.
A brother, Jeff Englehardt, was away at Southern Illinois University at the time of the murders.
Defense attorneys are not expected to dispute that the 25-year-old Howard committed the crimes but that he was legally insane at the time.
