Joliet Man Charged in Murder and Home Invasion

Erik Hernandez is being held in Will County Jail on $10 million bond

A Joliet man has been charged with fatally shooting a man and wounding another near southwest suburban Lockport last week.

Erik Hernandez, 30, of the 900 block of Plaza Drive in Joliet has been charged with first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, home invasion with first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, home invasion and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, according to the Will County Sheriff’s Office.

He is being held in Will County Jail on $10 million bond.

Hernandez is charged in the slaying of 39-year-old Juan A. Gonzalez, who was shot in the 2500 block of Hacker Drive in Lockport Township and pronounced dead at 3 a.m. on the scene, according to the Will County Coroner and police.

Gonzalez was in his garage with a 31-year-old friend when two men wearing dark clothes approached them from the street and opened fire. Both were shot in the head, but the friend survived, police said.
