JoJo the Gorilla Gets Goodbye Party From Lincoln Park Zoo

Tuesday's goodbye party includes an edible farewell banner and multi-tier ice “cake”

Lincoln Park Zoo on Tuesday bids farewell to JoJo the silverback gorilla with a bon voyage bash.

The party marks the zoo's final exhibit day for JoJo, 31, who soon will move to Brookfield Zoo in the western suburbs in hopes he'll start a family. JoJo turns 32 on April 30.

Western lowland gorillas Tabibu and Makari also are headed to other zoos, in Kansas City and Columbus, Ohio, for breeding programs. The moves were announced late last month.

Tuesday's party features a giant goodbye card for public well-wishers, as well as a giant edible farewell banner and colorful multi-tier ice “cake.”

The party begins at 10 a.m. at the Regenstein Center for African Apes at Lincoln Park Zoo.
