The cold snap across the region caused a water tower in Schererville, Indiana to overflow Tuesday, the Times of Northwest Indiana reports.
A caller notified the town’s public works department of a leak in the tower—but when crews investigated they discovered it was actually overflowing.
Jeff Huet, the Schererville Public Works Department director, told the Times a valve in the tower that monitors the levels of water would detect an overflow and shut off the flow automatically. The valve, however, was not working because of ice in the system, the paper reports.
There is no boil order for the area, Huet told the paper, and concerned residents should direct questions to the public works department.
