Illinois Woman Uses App, Catches Burglars in the Act

Woman was vacationing in Hawaii when an app alerted her

A suburban Chicago woman who was vacationing in Hawaii was able to help police catch a pair of would-be burglars after she spotted them prowling inside her home on a smartphone app.

Authorities say the Palos Heights woman used an app connected to three security cameras in her condo. The system sends an alert to the woman's phone when it detects movement inside the property.

She was traveling in Hawaii in late November when she got an alert and spotted the duo. She called her brother who then called police. They arrested the pair.

The two are expected in a Cook County court again on Jan. 14 following a status hearing Monday. The 21-year-old and 26-year-old men are both charged with residential burglary.
