Southbound I-55 lanes were shut down near US Route 30 after eight cars and a tractor-trailer were involved in an accident in the area, Illinois State Police said Friday.
A medicav chopper was called the scene of the accident near Joliet which occurred sometime around 5 p.m. Up to 10 people are reportedly injured.
One person was airlifted to an area hospital for serious injuries, police said.
