Hot Day Brings Threat of Storms to Chicago Area

There is a chance for severe weather later in the day as showers and storms move in during the evening and overnight hours

Things are about to hot in the Chicago area Thursday but it appears that heat won’t last long.

With highs near 90 degrees in some spots, the day is expected to start out mostly cloudy, windy, warm and humid.

There is a chance for severe weather later in the day as showers and storms move in during the evening and overnight hours.

An isolated thunderstorm is possible heading into the afternoon hours, particularly in areas south of Interstate 80, but the better chance for storms comes during the evening hours.

Some of the storms could become severe, bringing the threat of wind gusts of up to 60 mph and hail. Since the storms arrive overnight, instability will be lower and this will help the storms weaken as they move through our area.

Friday starts out cloudy with the chance for showers and thunderstorms lingering into the morning hours.

Temperature highs will sit near 80 degrees for the day, dropping into the upper-70s for the weekend.
