The 7-year-old girl shot while trick-or-treating Halloween night in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood has been released from the hospital, according to a family friend.
Giselle Zamago was shot by a teenage gang member who prosecutors said intended to hit a member of a rival gang, and instead hit the young girl who was wearing a Minnie Mouse costume.
In a Facebook post, family friend Matt De Mateo said Giselle went home after spending two weeks in the hospital.
"She's a fighter, and is now on a road to recovery," he added. "This is a huge step! Still a long road ahead."
The teenage suspect was previously charged with attempted murder of Zamago and a second victim who was also injured in the shooting.
