Girl Sexually Assaulted on South Side: Cops

The girl reportedly was assaulted on her way home from school.

Chicago police are searching for the person who attacked a 12-year-old girl in the middle of the day on the city's Southeast side.

The man sexually assaulted the girl in an alley in the 10700 block of South Calumet Avenue when she was on her way home from school Thursday afternoon, Police News Affairs said in a statement.

In the wake of the attack, officers stepped up their patrols and blanketed doorways with community alerts. Notices also went out to parents of students at Cullen Elementary School.

"It's sad out here. These men coming towards these little girls," said William Perkins, who lives in the area. "The devil is alive."

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5'10 tall and wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a black ski mask, police said.

Anyone with information is urged to call police.
