An 11-year-old girl ran away from a man who chased and tried to abduct her outside of an Aurora elementary school, police said.

The girl was serving as a student crossing guard at about 7:45 a.m. Wednesday at Greenman Elementary School, when she noticed a dark blue, full-size pickup truck where she was standing, according to the Daily Herald.

The girl told police an adult man she had not seen before motioned for her to come over to the truck, but she screamed and told her fellow students to go toward the school, at 729 W. Galena Blvd.

The man chased after her, she told police, even briefly grabbing her arm, which she managed to pull away.

Police described the man as Hispanic, about 5 feet 10 inches with a thin build, a mustache and goatee. An age was not estimated.

Anyone with information is asked to call Aurora police at 630-256-5500.
