Police are telling parents in the West Englewood neighborhood not to let their children walk to school by themselves after a 13-year-old girl was raped at gunpoint earlier this week.
The sexual assault happened at about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday as the girl was walking in the 5900 block of South Wood Street, police said.
The man allegedly approached her, started talking to her, then pulled out a blue steel handgun. At that point, police said, he forced the girl in a nearby alley where he sexually assaulted her before running off.
The offender is described as a black male between 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-11 with a slim build and light complexion. He was wearing a black hooded jacket and black skull cap.
No one is in custody in the assault. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 312-747-8380.
