Gay Club Fire Ruled Arson

No arrests, but leads being investigated, officials say

Suspicions that a fire that destroyed Velvet Rope Lounge was set intentionally have been confirmed.

The Oak Park Fire Department announced Thursday it had ruled the blaze an arson, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The fire that also caused damage to neighboring businesses gutted the gay nightclub.

The Tribune reported the Oak Park Police Department has not made any arrests in the case.

"We do not have any suspects at this time; we are still investigating leads," Oak Park Police Commander LaDon Reynolds told the Tribune.

Derogatory messages were found on one of the walls inside the bar after the flames had been put out.
