Gang Member Gets 70 Years For Halloween Shooting

Berly Valladares was convicted of murder for providing the gun that was used to kill Francisco "Frankie" Valencia

A 22-year-old gang member convicted of murdering a DePaul University student outside a Halloween party in 2009 was sentenced Thursday to 70 years in prison.

Berly Valladares was convicted for providing the gun that was used to kill Francisco "Frankie" Valencia outside a Logan Square home that had been rented for a party.

"This murderer took any chance I had to say good bye," said Joy McCormack, Valencia's mother. "He's shown no remorse, accepted no responsibility and lied on the stand."

Valladares also was convicted of aggravated battery with a firearm for the shooting of Valencia’s girlfriend Daisy Camacho, who was wounded in the gangway outside the party in the 1700 block of North Rockwell.

On the stand last year, Valladares conceded he gave the TEC-9 semiautomatic to Narcisco Gatica, who opened fire.
