Galewood Woman Stole Identity, Defrauded Other Woman: Police

A Galewood woman was charged with a felony Saturday after she allegedly stole another woman’s credit card information and then pretended to do business as that woman.

Alicia Renee Newby, 29, was charged with one count of continuing a financial crime enterprise, Chicago police said.

Newby got a 47-year-old woman’s credit card information through electronic means between July 5 and July 11 in the 600 block of North Lake Shore Drive, police said. Afterwards, she allegedly posed as the 47-year-old via Internet and phone to do business with financial institutions and businesses.

Officers executed a search warrant and Newby was taken into custody, police said.

She is due in bond court Sunday.
