Buffone passed away Monday at the age of 70. Police were called to his Chicago home where they found him unresponsive. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The former linebacker played for the Chicago Bears for his entire 14-year career and is third on the team's list of most games played, at 186.

"He will always be celebrated as one of the Bears greats for his contributions to the team and the fans who loved him," Bears Chairman George McCaskey said in a statement Monday. "There was no one tougher on Sundays than Doug Buffone."
