Four Rescued from Capsized Boat on Lake Michigan

Father, 2 children and another man were saved by a helicopter

Emergency crews rescued two men and two children from Lake Michigan Thursday night after their speed boat hit a breakwall and capsized .

A man, his 10 and 12-year-old daughters and another man were all wearing life vests when they were thrown into the water 2-miles off shore near Chicago Avenue.

One of them placed a distress call around 10:15 p.m. and the Chicago Police Marine Unit responded, according to a police department statement.

They pulled the four to safety with the help of a Chicago Fire Department helicopter.

The men were treated on the scene and the girls were taken to Children's Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
