A former Chicago Public School employee was accused of sexually assaulting two girls on Chicago’s West Side, according to authorities Wednesday.

Eugene Westmoreland, 58, faces sexual abuse charges that date back 16 years, and Chicago police said one of his victims was 9 years old when it happened.

“I did not know that at all,” said a Chicago Public School parent, Renee Dixon. “This is the first year my kids have been in Chicago Public Schools.”

Westmoreland was arrested on Oct. 29, and charged with at least 5 felony counts involving sexual assault or abuse.

Police said the charges involve a 16-year-old girl in 2003 and another girl who was abused from 2007 to 2014 starting at the age of 9.

Up until eight years ago, Westmoreland had worked for CPS, serving as a substitute when he was terminated.

CPS said Westmoreland worked for the school system until he was dismissed in 2011 for reasons unrelated to the charges and placed a “do not hire” designation on this record.

After his termination, Westmoreland worked at Christ the King Jesuit College Prep on the West Side, where he was listed as a band teacher.

In a statement, the school said that it “has learned that one of our former employees was recently arrested...We are and have been fully cooperating with the civil authorities...we wish to assure all in the community that the safety and security of our students, faculty, and staff is our number one priority.”
