Football Fan Says Company Fumbles Jersey Order

Chicago football fans are ready to Bear Down on Sunday as the team kicks off the 2016 season against the Houston Texans. But one super fan said there’s no way he’ll be wearing a Bears jersey he ordered online after it arrived with the incorrect spelling of a legendary player’s name.

Bill Krantz said a fumble in the printing process has left him too embarrassed to wear a Brian Urlacher “throwback” jersey in public. The jersey was delivered with the retired linebacker’s name spelled URLACKER.

“You can’t walk around Chicago or any other town with a jersey, a legend’s name misspelled,” Krantz said.

Krantz said he ordered the jersey last year after seeing a $299 jersey with Urlacher’s name on NFLshop.com.

“I just clicked and clicked and paid and it was that easy,” Krantz said.

Krantz said his jersey arrived in time to wear for a game last season and that’s when he realized Urlacher’s name was spelled wrong.

“I didn’t know to whether to take it off or turn it upside down or inside out,” Krantz said.

Krantz later complained to NFLshop.com and said he was told by a customer service representative that he had spelled the name wrong while custom ordering it. Krantz insists he ordered the jersey that was displayed online.

Krantz said the back-and-forth with NFLshop.com customer service lasted several months. He said he was not looking for a refund. He only wanted the company to fix the spelling.

“They kept rejecting the mistake and trying to point the finger at me,” Krantz said.

Krantz contacted NBC 5 Responds to see if we could intercept the issue before the 2016 football season kicked-off.

A spokesperson for the NFL immediately responded to an inquiry from NBC 5 Responds and said the company was looking to get the issue resolved.

A week later, Krantz received a new football jersey from NFLShop.com. This time, Urlacher was spelled correctly.

“It’s fantastic that it’s here for the season because I’ll be wearing it every Bears game,” Krantz said. “By reaching out to you, it instantly happened where they made it right. I’m really glad they did. I’ll continue to be a customer.”

So what does Brian Urlacher think about the issue? The NBC 5 sports department contacted Urlacher by email. While he declined to talk on camera, Urlacher expressed surprise.

Krantz said there’s a reason why he and so many other Bears fan continue to support the legendary linebacker.

“He’s what a middle linebacker in the NFL is all about, “ Krantz said. “When you think of a football player, you think of Brian Urlacher.”
