Three Injured, One Critically, in Apartment Blaze in Edgewater

The fire broke out in an apartment in the 1000 block of West Catalpa

Three people were injured, one critically, in a fire that broke out in an apartment building in the North Side Edgewater neighborhood Sunday morning.

The fire broke out on the third floor of an apartment in the 1000 block of West Catalpa just after 8 a.m., Chicago Fire officials said.

Several people had to be rescued by ladders, and firefighters went room to room to make sure everyone got out of the building as many of them were asleep when the fire started.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire officials are also investigating whether all of the smoke detectors were working when the fire broke out.
