Firefighter Injured in Extra-Alarm Blaze

A firefighter was injured Saturday morning while fighting an extra-alarm blaze the broke out at a strip mall on the city’s Southwest Side.

Just after 7 a.m., firefighters responded to a mall in the 5400 block of South Kedzie Avenue, according to Fire Media.

The fire, which was sparked inside one of the stores, damaged at least four commercial storefronts in the building and sparked a 2-11 alarm alert, officials said.

Over 100 firefighters responded to the alarm, one of which was taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center with unknown injuries.

Around 8 a.m., fire officials said the alarm was struck out but that firefighters were still chasing hot spots in the buildings.
