Firefighter Critically Injured in Bridgeport Blaze

The firefighter was "overcome by the stress of the fire"

A Chicago firefighter was critically injured while battling a fire in the Bridgeport neighborhood Saturday morning.

The fire broke out around 8 a.m. at a building in the 500 block of West 31st Street, fire officials said in a tweet.

One of the firefighters was "overcome by the stress of the fire" and transported to a hospital in critical condition, according to Chicago Fire Department spokesperson Larry Langford.

Langford said in the heat and humidity of the summer, the department often rotates firefighters to prevent such injuries.
