    When Mother Nature takes the temperature to dangerous levels, it's important to find a safe place to stay warm.

    Public spaces like museums and libraries can offer relief from the cold, as well as something to do, but designated warming centers also provide shelter. 

    The Chicago Department of Family and Support Services operates six warming centers in the city that are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.:
