Report: Father Questioned in Girl's Murder

There may be a break in the high-profile unsolved murder case of 9-year-old Mya Lyons, who was assaulted and stabbed near her father’s South Side home in 2008.

According to a Sun-Times News Group report Monday night, her father, Richard Lyons, is being questioned in connection with her death.

On July 14, 2008, Lyons told police he found his daughter’s body in an alley in the 8400 block of South Gilbert. She had been visiting with him for the summer.

Police questioned Lyons early in the investigation, searching his home and confiscating his van, but he was never named a suspect. Lyons’ attorney, Alan Blumenthal, told multiple news outlets only that his client was being questioned and he would have more information Tuesday.

Police have not confirmed the reports, and no charges have been filed.
