‘We're Going to Stay Here Until They Find My Baby': Family Awaits Recovery of Loved One in Lake Michigan

Family and friends of 24-year-old Tiara Hardy gather on Marquette Park Beach are holding onto hope that she will be found.

Her brother says she went swimming with two friends Monday night.

The waves became too much. Her friends made it out.

“The last thing they’d seen was a crashing wave over her and then she was gone,” Taj, Tiara's brother, told NBC 5.

Multiple police agencies frantically searched for several hours. They began looking for her again at 5-in the morning.

Family and friends are staying on the beach, supporting each other and reminiscing about the fun loving young woman who dreamed of owning her own hair salon one day.

“She’s such a sweetheart who would do anything for anyone, no matter what it takes from her,” Linda Sykes, Tiara's grandmother, said.

That's why friends and family are planting their chairs in the sand...waiting for answers.

“We’re going to stay here until they find my baby," Linda said. "We need her in this family, I’m not giving up hope that she didn’t wash up on shore somewhere."
