3 Injured in LaSalle County Explosion

Authorities in central Illinois said three people were injured after a fire and explosion at a plant in Tonica.

LaSalle County Sheriff's officials said the incident happened Monday morning at Dauber Company Inc. The company processes metallurgical silicon carbide.

Two of the injured, a 44-year-old man from Streator and a 35-year-old man from Magnolia, were taken to a hospital in Peru for treatment of burns. A third, 48-year-old man from LaSalle, was taken to a Spring Valley hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Fire departments from nine municipalities responded to the explosion. The Tonica Fire Department and State Fire Marshall's Office are investigating the incident.

Tonica is 100 miles southwest of Chicago.
