Ex-Trooper Admits to Watching Child Porn at Work

Officer Says Boredom Drove Him to Child Porn Sites

A retired Illinois State Police Trooper has pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography and official misconduct for using his department-issued laptop to browse child porn on the job.

Juan Rodriguez, 51, of Glen Ellyn said he began looking at child porn at work because he was “bored” during late-night patrol shifts.

DuPage County prosecutors say Rodriguez developed such an obsession with the sites that he charged almost $100 on his credit card to access the photos.

Police had already infiltrated the site and traced the credit card number and other information provided back to Rodriguez.

The now-retired trooper faces up to five years for the crime, but after a plea deal, Rodriguez is expected to serve 60 days in jail and 30 months probation.

He will have to register as a sex offender and likely will lose the pension he accrued during his 27 years of service with the Illinois State Police.
