Evanston Man Charged With Beating Infant Daughter Because She “Wouldn't Stop Crying”

An Evanston man has been charged with allegedly beating his 24-day-old daughter, according to police.

Evanston Police said they were alerted to a case of possible child abuse at around 4:30 a.m. Sunday by staff members at Lurie Children’s Hospital after an infant was admitted to the hospital with injuries that were not consistent with what the father described.

Upon investigation, 21-year-old Carlos A. Jaimes admitted to officers that he grabbed his infant daughter around her midsection and began violently shaking her because she “would not stop crying.”

The infant is listed in critical condition but is expected to survive her injuries, police said.

Jaimes is charged with one count of aggravated battery to an infant child.
