Elgin police want to know who shot and killed a teenage boy.
Police said shots rang out just before 8 p.m. Thursday in the 800 block of East Chicago Street in downtown Elgin.
Within minutes officers tracked down a car that was at the scene and stopped the vehicle near Dundee Avenue and Symphony Way, police said.
Inside, officers found a 16-year old boy shot in the chest. He died shortly after at Provena Saint Joseph Hospital, police said.
Police said several others also were inside the car. The Elgin Gang Crimes and Major Investigations Division is investigating.
