Elgin Man Gets 2 Years for Killing Roommate's Dog

Man pleaded guilty to throwing a Chihuahua against the wall in May

An Elgin man was sentenced this week to two years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for killing his roommate’s Chihuahua during a fight in May.

Oscar Guerrero, 20, of the 500 block of Lavoie Avenue pleaded guilty Wednesday to felony aggravated cruelty to animals, and the sentence was handed down.

The Kane County State's Attorney said a fight started around 1:30 a.m. on May 13 when Guerrero, who had been drinking, woke up his roommate to ask him for help with a project.

The roommate, sleeping with a Chihuahua named Daisy on the living room sofa, refused. The two started arguing, and Guerrero at one point grabbed the dog by the scruff of the neck and threw her at a wall, killing her.

Guerrero was given credit for at least 137 days already spent in the Kane County jail since his arrest.
