DuPage Inmate To Be Sentenced, Married On Same Day

Karlos Leath will wed after receiving sentence for deadly DUI crash

A DuPage County inmate plans to get hitched the same day as his sentencing for a deadly DUI crash.

Karlos Leath of Warrenville faces a prison term of three to eight years, The Daily Herald reported. After sentencing him, Judge Blanche Hill Fawell will officiate his wedding.

Fawell told the Herald this was a first for her.

Leath pleaded guilty to aggravated driving under the influence after killing his 18-year-old passenger in a car accident back in April.

Police said Leath was driving south on Shaffner Road in Wheaton when his Ford Explorer veered off the roadway and flipped over.

LaWanda Phillips, Leath's defense attorney, told the Herald it's not uncommon for defendants to get married while in custody. However, she didn't say anything about the inmate's wedding plans.

The sentence hearing and wedding are scheduled for Dec. 12.
