Dave Chappelle apparently doesn’t want his Chicago fans using their smartphones during his 13-show run in the Windy City.
Thalia Hall revealed on their website that, per Chappelle’s request, there will be no cell phones allowed inside the venue during the events. Cell phones will need to be checked if they are brought to the venue, according to the site.
Though Thalia Hall did not specify how the phones would be “checked,” the Hollywood Reporter reported the event will use new technology called Yondr.
Yondr founder Graham Dugoni said during an interview with the publication that Chappelle entered a deal with the San Francisco-based company, using their smartphone-locking pouches to keep fans from being on their phones during the performances.
How does it work?
According to the company’s website, the pouches are handed out as guests enter a venue. Fans put their phones in the cases and take them into the venue. Once they enter the “phone-free zone” the cases will lock. If someone needs to use their phone, they must leave the phone-free zone to unlock the case.
Chappelle initially announced a 12-show run in Chicago last week and tickets for the shows quickly sold out. A warm-up show was later added on Nov. 30.
