A group of high school students from Chicago’s Southwest Side made the city proud Tuesday night when they blew away judges and the rest of the country on NBC’s "America’s Got Talent."
The group of singers, called "Musicality Vocal Ensemble" from Curie Metropolitan High School in city’s Archer Heights neighborhood wowed the crowd with a hair-raising rendition of One Direction's "Night Changes."
"The school is in a rough neighborhood," Musicality’s director, Michael Gibson, told the judges before their performance. "But we have kids like this who dedicate themselves every day."
Gibson said their school doesn’t have much, but the singers — ages 15 to 18 — don’t let that stop them from chasing their dreams.
"They go to our stairwell where we rehearse," Gibson said. "[Yes,] we rehearse in a stairwell. And we sing every day and try to perfect our craft."
"And what would winning mean to you?" Judge Simon Cowell asked.
"It would be just our opportunity to show that like, just because of where we come from, doesn’t mean we can’t do anything," one of the singers responded.

After the inspirational audition, Gibson said it was "surreal" to see the kids rewarded for all of their hard work.
