Cubs Welcome Surprise Guest Ryne Sandberg for Monday's First Pitch

The mystery special guest who threw the first pitch at Wrigley Field before Monday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals was noneother than Ryne Sandberg.

Sandberg, who spent 16 years playing for the Cubs and was affectionately called Ryno, was greeted with a roaring applause by Chicago Cubs fans.

The Cubs kept Sandberg's appearance quiet, not revealing the identity of the special guest that was participating in the pregame ritual. They opted to keep everyone in suspense until Sandberg walked out to the pitcher’s mound before Game 3 of the NLDS against the St. Louis Cardinals.

And Sandberg wasn't the only celebrity appearance at the game.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Eddie Vedder, John Cusack, Billy Corgan, Joel Quenneville and a slew of former Cubs were expected to be in attendance.

There was plenty of speculation as to who would throw out the pitch, with guesses ranging from former First Lady Hillary Clinton to legendary Cubs fan Steve Bartman.
