Cubs World Series Celebration Shares Presidential History Connection

Perhaps easily overlooked by the massive and historic celebratory vibe of the city during the Cubs’ World Series Victory Parade, former Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod made an insightful observation on Twitter Friday.

“@Cubs rally in Grant Park comes 8 years to the day that @BarackObama claimed the presidency in the same place. Two historic events!” Axelrod, now director of University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics, tweeted.

President Barrack Obama himself weighed in the night of the Cubs first World Series victory in more than a century.

"It happened: @Cubs win World Series. That's change even this South Sider can believe in. Want to come to the White House before I leave?" the president tweeted Wednesday night.

Another historic coincidence noted today, though less presidential, is what time Cubs Coach Joe Maddon hoisted the trophy before the massive crowd so excited the 108-year-old championship drought had ended.

It was 1:08 p.m.
