Cubs Will Open Postseason in Pittsburgh vs. Pirates

The Chicago Cubs did their part on Sunday afternoon as they beat the Milwaukee Brewers, but the Pittsburgh Pirates did not as they knocked off the Cincinnati Reds and clinched home-field advantage in Wednesday’s National League wild card game.

The Cubs’ victory was their eighth consecutive win to wrap up the regular season, and they pushed their record to 97-65, their best mark since the 2008 season. The Pirates sent the Reds to their 14th loss in their final 15 games of the season, leaving Pittsburgh with a 98-64 record and the benefit of playing in Wednesday’s winner-take-all game against the Cubs at PNC Park.

For the Cubs, the news that they will not be opening the postseason at Wrigley Field is not ideal, but it’s hardly a deal breaker: the Cubs finished the regular season with 48 road victories, the highest total in baseball this season.

First pitch of the wild card game will take place at 7:08 p.m. Central Time on Wednesday night, with the game airing on TBS. The Pirates will send Gerrit Cole to the mound to face the Cubs, and Chicago will counter with 22-game winner Jake Arrieta.
