The Cubs’ victory was their eighth consecutive win to wrap up the regular season, and they pushed their record to 97-65, their best mark since the 2008 season. The Pirates sent the Reds to their 14th loss in their final 15 games of the season, leaving Pittsburgh with a 98-64 record and the benefit of playing in Wednesday’s winner-take-all game against the Cubs at PNC Park.

For the Cubs, the news that they will not be opening the postseason at Wrigley Field is not ideal, but it’s hardly a deal breaker: the Cubs finished the regular season with 48 road victories, the highest total in baseball this season.

First pitch of the wild card game will take place at 7:08 p.m. Central Time on Wednesday night, with the game airing on TBS. The Pirates will send Gerrit Cole to the mound to face the Cubs, and Chicago will counter with 22-game winner Jake Arrieta.
