Cubs Listed as World Series Favorites in Las Vegas

The Chicago Cubs haven’t been to the World Series in 70 years and haven’t won it in 107, but that hasn’t deterred Las Vegas from bestowing the team with a new nickname:

World Series favorites.

According to the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, the Cubs are now an 8-to-5 favorite to win the championship this season. They opened the season at 40-to-1 odds after bringing Joe Maddon and Jon Lester into the mix, but thanks to their victories over the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals in the early stages of the postseason, the team is now a favorite to end their lengthy championship drought and bring joy to their long-suffering fans.

Of course, the Cubs still have a long way to go before they can celebrate such a championship. Even with their previous victories, the team is still only one-third of the way through the postseason, needing eight more victories to actually clinch the title. That road will start up again on Saturday night, when they play either the Los Angeles Dodgers or New York Mets in Game 1 of the NLCS.

If the Cubs can clinch their first pennant in 70 years, another stiff challenge will await them in the World Series, as the speedy Kansas City Royals or the slugging Toronto Blue Jays would get their crack at the Cubs.
