Cubs Home Opener Postponed Due to Weather, Rescheduled for Tuesday

Just hours before the first pitch, Wrigley Field looked like a winter wonderland

The Chicago Cubs' season kick-off in Chicago will have to wait an extra day after the team postponed the game due to wintry weather across the area Monday.

According to NBC 5's Mike Berman, the home opener was rescheduled to Tuesday at 1:20 p.m. CT. Gates will open at 11:20 a.m. and opening ceremony is set to begin at roughly 12:45 p.m., the Cubs announced.

The team said the postponement was "due to the forecast inclement weather throughout the day."

Tickets to Monday's game will be honored at Wrigley Field Tuesday, the team said.

The move comes just after the Cubs announced plans to delay the start of the home opener Monday to 2:20 p.m. CT "following overnight snow showers that continued into the morning."

The Chicago Cubs were set to kick off their home schedule against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but just hours before the first pitch, Wrigley Field looked like a winter wonderland.
