Cops Say Man Found With “Extensive Amount” of Child Porn

Benjamin D. Niskanen charged with five felony counts of possession of child pornography

A north suburban man was behind bars Wednesday after cyber investigators led authorities to his home, where they found an “extensive amount” of child pornography, according to police.

Last month, the Lake County Sheriff’s Cybercrimes Unit and the Lake County State’s Attorney’s office started a joint investigation after learning that child porn was being downloaded on a computer in Gurnee, a statement from he sheriff’s office said.

A search warrant was executed Tuesday at a home in the 7400 block of Korbel Drive and “multiple electronic devices capable of storing electronic media” were among the evidence seized, according to the sheriff’ office.

“A forensic examination of the media devices revealed an extensive amount of images and videos identified as child pornography,” the statement said, leading to the arrest of 21-year-old resident Benjamin D. Niskanen.

He was charged with five felony counts of possession of child pornography, and ordered held on a $100,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 14.
