Cop, Motorist Seriously Hurt in Collision

A Chicago Police officer is in “guarded” condition after the police SUV he was driving crashed with another car while he was on his way to a call of a battery in the Hermosa neighborhood on the Northwest Side Sunday morning.

At 7:15 a.m. the Chevrolet Tahoe had its lights and sirens activated and it collided with another vehicle at the intersection of West Fullerton and North Kostner  avenues, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.

A man behind the wheel of the civilian vehicle and the officer were both taken in serious condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention  Curtis said.Mirabelli  described the officer’s condition as “guarded.’’
 

The officer was responding  to a call of a battery in progress in the  4100 block of Fullerton when the crash happened, according to Mirabelli.
 

The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
