Condition Improves for 2-Year-Old Who Fell Down Elevator

The boy is expected to survive after the 30-foot fall Sunday

The 2-year-old boy who suffered severe head injuries after falling down an elevator shaft is expected to survive, the Sun-Times reports.

The boy fell 30 feet at a Joliet hotel on Sunday and was considered to be in critical condition.

The boy apparently left his room at Plaza Hotel, 26 W. Clinton St., and began playing with the elevator buttons, police say. The elevator moved and then stopped, creating a 10-inch gap between the elevator and the wall.

The car was stopped between the first and second floors.

The incident is still under investigation.
