City of Chicago Seeks 100th Christmas Tree

Chicago officials already searching for the city's official Christmas tree

Got a big Spruce or Fir tree in your yard worthy of lighting up Daley Plaza this Christmas season? Chicago wants a look.

City officials are searching for the “perfect” tree to kick off the season at the 100th Annual Chicago Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Nov. 26.

Chicago's official tree has been donated by a single family since 2009. Last year's 64-foot Colorado spruce came from the Theiszmann family's front yard in Prospect Heights.

If you're interested, submit at least two photos to the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events by emailing dcase@cityofchicago.org or calling 312-744-3316.

Eligible trees must be a Spruce or Fir, be least 55 feet or taller, accessible for safe removal and located within 100 miles of Chicago's Loop.

All submissions are due by Sept. 13.
