A 7-year-old boy died Sunday after accidentally shooting himself in the head on the city's South Side.
Police say Devon Lofton suffered an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a home in the 6700 block of S. Aberdeen St. in the Englewood neighborhood Sunday.
According to the Chicago Fire Department, the shooting occurred at 3:51 p.m., and the child was taken in critical condition to Comer Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police do not know where the gun came from and if it was owned legally by someone in the house as they continue to investigate.
