Thousands Expected Saturday at Chicago's March for Our Lives

Several thousands of activists in Chicago are uniting Saturday in a massive event known as ‘March for Our Lives,’ to spread awareness about gun violence and increase gun control.

Here's what you need to know:

When/Where: Saturday's event will kick off at Union Park, 1501 W. Randolph St., and will then proceed east on Washington Blvd. all the way to Racine Ave., then north on Racine Ave. to Randolph St., and end west on Randolph St., back to Union Park.

Participants: People of all ages are expected to show out.

Event organizers said participants can begin to assemble at 10:30 a.m. but the march won’t officially start until noon.

Suburban Gatherings:

• Schaumburg Town Square, 130 S. Roselle Road at 9 a.m.

• Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, 380 Greenfield Ave. at 10 a.m.

Downers Grove North High School, 4436 Main St. at 11 a.m.

Oswego High School, 4250 Illinois Route 71 at 11 a.m.

Hawthorn South Middle School, 600 N. Aspen at 11:30 a.m.

 Elgin Main Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. at 12 p.m.

Street closures are expected along the route and other additional street closures may also be implemented to ensure public safety.

The ADA accessible drop off location for those with disabilities will be on Randolph St. between Lake St. and Ogden Ave. 

Transit: The CTA announced it will expand its services to the Green Line and Bus #9 Ashland will be rerouted due to street closures associated with the event.

The massive event takes place after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting that killed 17 people in Parkland, Florida, protestors all over the world are echoing the words "never again;" a desperate call to end gun violence and demand that lives and safety become a priority for lawmakers, according to the event page.
