4 Dead, 32 Wounded in Shootings Since Friday Evening

Among the injured victims are four people who were shot during a party in the Austin neighborhood

Four people were killed and at least 32 others wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday evening.

The first fatal shooting happened at 6:40 p.m. Friday in the 4100 block of West Wilcox in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

A 19-year-old man was shot in the head by someone in a passing minivan, police said. The shooter fled the scene after the incident, and the victim was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

The victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

No one is in custody, and Area North detectives are investigating. A police source said the victim was a documented gang member.

In another fatal shooting incident happened at about 2:05 a.m. Saturday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.

A 27-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds was found inside a car that had crashed into a tree in the 300 block of North Central Park, police said. The man had been shot in the chest, back and arm.

The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. 

Police did not release further details into the fatal shooting. No one is in custody, and Area North detectives are investigating.

A 21-year-old man was shot to death in the West Englewood neighborhood Sunday.

The shooting took place at about 1:10 p.m. in the 5700 block of South Paulina, police said. The victim was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, where he died at about 1:50 p.m.

The most recent fatal shooting happened just before 10 p.m. Sunday in Chicago's Lawndale neighborhood.

Police said two people were shot, one of them fatally, after a gunman opened fire on a group of men standing at a corner near 18th Street and Springfield Avenue. A 19-year-old man was shot int he chest and pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital. A 16-year-old boy was shot in the head and listed in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital. 

At least 31 others were wounded in weekend shootings, including four people who were shot during a party at a home in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

The shooting happened at about 3 a.m. Sunday in the 5400 block of West Division. A group of people was gathered outside the party when an argument broke out and someone fired shots, police said.

The victims included a 25-year-old woman who was driving down Division when the gunfire erupted. She was struck in the shoulder and transported to West Suburban Hospital in good condition, police said.

The other victims are a 26-year-old man shot in the leg, a 29-year-old man shot in the armpit and a 33-year-old man shot in the leg. The 29-year-old man was listed in serious condition at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Several others were shot in Chicago over the weekend: 

  • A 22-year-old man was shot in the arm, hand and both legs at about 6:50 p.m. Friday in the 2000 block of West 79th Street in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood.
  • Three men — ages 16, 26 and 37 — were shot at about 7:15 p.m. Friday in the 4700 block of West Barry in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood. The 16-year-old and 26-year-old were shot in the foot, and the 37-year-old was shot in the shin.
  • Three people — ages 15, 16 and 24 — were shot at about 7:30 p.m. Friday in the 6100 block of South Kimbark in the Woodlawn neighborhood. The 15-year-old was shot in the hand, the 16-year-old in the neck and 24-year-old in the abdomen.
  • A 29-year-old man was shot in the abdomen at about 10:45 p.m. Friday in the 5900 block of West Huron in the Austin neighborhood.
  • A 19-year-old was shot in the chest and thigh at about 1 a.m. Saturday in the 4000 block of West 21st Place in the Little Village neighborhood.
  • A 25-year-old man was shot in the buttocks at about 3:15 a.m. in the 100 block of East Cullerton on the Near South Side.
  • A 27-year-old man was shot multiple times after he said he was chased and beat up at about 4:05 a.m. Saturday in the 2500 block of South Kedvale in the Little Village neighborhood.
  • A 33-year-old man was shot in the calf before 5 a.m. Saturday in the 4000 block of West Fullerton in the Hermosa neighborhood.
  • A 17-year-old man was shot in the leg at about 10:50 a.m. Saturday in the 4800 block of West Huron in the Austin neighborhood.
  • A 23-year-old man was shot in the thigh at about 4 p.m. Saturday in the 8700 block of South Escanaba in the South Chicago neighborhood.
  • A 21-year-old man was shot in the leg at about 12 a.m. Sunday in the 3200 block of South Morgan in the Bridgeport neighborhood.
  • A 20-year-old man was shot in the chest at about 1:15 a.m. Sunday in the 11700 block of South Bishop in the West Pullman neighborhood.
  • A 20-year-old man was shot in the back and abdomen at about 1:15 a.m. Sunday in the 5900 block of South Union in the Englewood neighborhood.
  • Three men — ages 24, 27 and 32 — were shot at about 5:10 a.m. Sunday in the 4800 block of West Van Buren in the Austin neighborhood. The 24-year-old was shot in the armpit, the 27-year-old suffered a graze wound to the foot and the 32-year-old was shot in the arm.
  • An 18-year-old man was shot just before 7 p.m. in the 6700 block of South Western Avenue. The man was walking on the street when a gunman exited an alley and opened fire, police said. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition. The gunman fled westbound across Western Avenue but no one was in custody as of early Monday morning. 
  • Two men were shot around 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the city's Bronzeville neighborhood. The victims, both 22 years old, were shot in the 3700 block of South Michigan Avenue. One of the men was shot in the shoulder and taken to Stroger Hospital and the other was wounded in the foot and taken to Mercy Hospital. 
  • A 24-year-old man was shot around 10 p.m. Sunday during a reported robbery attempt while he was working construction. Police said the man was working construction in the 4400 block of West Iowa Street when two people approached, one of them armed with a handgun, and said they were robbing him. The two took the man's money and shot him in the buttocks. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. 
  • Around 11:30 p.m., an 18-year-old man was shot in the shoulder and torso in the 8900 block of South Commercial Avenue. The teen was listed in serious condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center.
  • Just after 1 a.m., a 15-year-old boy was shot in the 6300 block of South Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Police said the man was walking down the street when a group of people opened fire at him. The teen was listed in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital.
  • A 24-year-old man was shot in the hip and leg just after 1:15 a.m. Sunday in the 5400 block of South Justine Street. The man told police he was outside when he heard shots and felt pain. He was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital.
