Chicago Woman Says Suspect Stalked Her, Waited to Attack Until She Fell Asleep

The victim remained anonymous per her request for safety reasons

Authorities continue to search for a suspect who allegedly attacked a Chicago North Side woman after the victim says he spotted her at an Avondale Jewel-Osco grocery store, followed her home and waited until she fell asleep to break into her apartment.

The 32-year-old victim, who will remain anonymous per her request for safety reasons, shared her story with NBC 5 Monday in hopes of helping to catch a man she says appeared in her apartment located near North Whipple St. and W. Waveland Ave. about 10 days ago.

"He followed me home from Jewel, used my landlords' ladder to break into my apartment," she said. "He watched me...waited for me to go to sleep...came into my apartment and attacked me."

The woman said it looked like the suspect was taking his shirt off, thinking she was probably asleep but she was wide awake when she says her instincts kicked in.

“I was really careful because I live alone, I can hear everything…I know the neighbors heard me and chose not to help me,” she said.

She describes it as a fight for her life.

“I remember sticking my finger up his nostril and blood all over my hands and my house. he put his hands and arm around my neck and his hand over my mouth and I bit his finger really, really,, really hard and started screaming again and banging on the walls,” she recounted.

She told NBC 5 that at that moment, she thought the drunk man was going to kill her and feared that fighting back and causing to him to hurt more, would eventually cause his anger to spike.

“He didn’t say anything; Then told me he would let me go towards the end of the fight, then he ran out the front door,” she said.

The victim describes the alleged attacker as a young Hispanic man with a medium build, auburn beard and dark hair.
