Chicago Ranks Among Top 20 “Snobbiest” Cities

Chicagoans are among the snobbiest big-city dwellers in the country, but we're not as bad as last year.

In its annual survey of America’s favorite cities, Travel + Leisure asked readers to rank 38 major cities within certain categories, including wine bars, museums, cleanliness and snobbery.

Chicago landed at No. 17 on the 2014 snob list, down from its 2013 ranking at No. 7.

"Think Chicagoans have less attitude than New Yorkers? Try wearing your Yankee sweatshirt into a Wrigleyville sports bar," according to the assessment.

The magazine goes on to point out that "some of the newer sports bars in Chicago go way beyond divey spots for a beer and nachos," such as State bar in Lincoln Park which boasts more than 100 flat-screen TVs and upscale bar food.

"According to readers, Chicago has also earned an air of superiority for its top-ranked, deep-dish pizza," the article reads.

Well, at least we're far from the Second City on this list.

Readers named New Yorkers as the snobbiest and Miami residents as second snobbiest. Los Angeles ranks third, followed by Washington D.C.

This isn't the first time an Illinois town has popped up on a snobby list.

Real estate website Movoto.com has ranked Oak Park seventh among the Top 10 snobbiest small cities in America and Naperville among the Top 5 snobbiest mid-sized cities in America.
