Chicago Police Ask Rogers Park Businesses Not to Sell Eggs to Young People

Chicago police have asked stores in Rogers Park not to sell eggs to young people around Halloween.

Police said in a statement to NBC 5 and Telemundo Chicago that they made the request in an effort to reduce vandalism.

“The CPD works hard to foster positive and productive relationships with our business partners in order to make our communities safer,” police said in a statement. "For the upcoming Halloween weekend, the 24th district has asked grocery merchants to help police deter vandalism by reducing egg sales to youth who may be inclined to use them to commit minor acts of vandalism."

They added that the alert is not a “citywide initiative,” explaining that it was sent to “address recent concerns by residents over property damage.”

Police have asked retailers not to sell eggs to minors until at least Nov. 8.
