Chicago Officer Shoots Suspect in Woodlawn: Cops

Officer shoots one suspect, another injured by police vehicle responding to scene

One man was shot by a police officer and another was struck by a police vehicle during an investigation Monday night on the South Side, police said.

Officers were in the area of 62nd and Rhodes in the Woodlawn neighborhood responding to a call of shots fired around 7:40 p.m. During that investigation, police said they saw two suspects running away and officers chased them.

One suspect turned and pointed a gun at police, and one officer fired at him and struck him, police said. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.

A second suspect ran onto South Saint Lawrence Avenue and was struck by a police vehicle responding to the scene, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County with non life-threatening injuries.

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the incident.
