Man found dead in his South Side home with wound on his neck

At least one of a Chicago man's two pit bulls mauled him to death in his South Side home Wednesday night, an autopsy revealed Thursday.

Police said Charles Hagerman, 44, was discovered dead around 8:15 p.m. by his wife inside their home in the 5600 block of South Racine. One of the pit bulls was on top of Hagerman when he was found.

The man suffered a fatal neck injury, according to the autopsy. Hagerman died of multiple injuries from a dog attack, and the death was ruled accidental, according to the medical examiner's office.

The city's Animal Care and Control office removed the dogs from the home.
